The bonding of bituminous road surface layers is tested on drill cores with the aid of a special shear apparatus. The plotted force-path diagrams can be described by a mathematical function. In this way, together with visual observations, the causes of damage can be determined. The processes during the shearing-off and the factors influencing shear resistance are discussed.
