Activity of the track machines section of the Allunion Scientific Research Diesel Locomotives Institute VNITI (Russia) is briefly described. The section includes the department of working heads tests, laboratory of track machines tests, laboratory of materials and reliability department. In the frames of a new progressive technology of rail grinding, the tests of the rail-grinding train RShP-48 and the track machine RR-16 were carried out.
