Ontario Hydro is a large publicly owned electric utility in Canada serving approximately 8 million customers in the Province of Ontario. It has over 24,000 MWe of installed generating capacity split between hydraulic, fossil fuels and CANDU nuclear generating stations. This paper describes Ontario Hydro's liquid and gaseous emission control systems and performance; the solid reactor operating waste systems and experience; and briefly describes the common Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL/CRNL) and Ontario Hydro project for the long term isolation of reactor operating and maintenance wastes.
