PUBLISHING IN THE NATURAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES.

THe ARRB Journal Australian Road Research (ARR) was recently established as a separate ARRB Activity, independent of the 'Publications' budget, in order that more accurate management and cost data could be recorded. This action resulted from discussions held at the National Forum on Publishing in the Natural and Social Sciences held in Canberra from May 29-30, 1987. The purposes of this note are to summarize the Forum, particularly the results of a questionnaire distributed to publishers in Australia and New Zealand prior to the Forum and, where appropriate, to compare the results of the survey to ARR, particularly from the point of view of authors and referees.
