The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how the technology of microprocessor control can be utilized in conjunction with an improved electromechanical tape transport to provide ″open-reel-like″ control and audio quality from the NAB formated tape cartridge. This paper describes the control aspects of a microprocessor controlled tape recorder/reproducer. This method of control results in improved audio quality from the standard NAB endless loop tape cartridge.
