The first mobiles with high transmission speeds will be rolled out in the 4th quarter of this year. And network providers will give their backing: Diax and Swisscom intend to provide high-speed networks for mobiles. The new magic abbreviations are HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE and UMTS. The days of sluggish WAPing may be over. However, consumers will have to dip into their pockets. Anyone who wishes to WAP quickly will require a new mobile phone and possibly a new SIM card.
