There have been studies of the software reliability growth model based on the hypergeometric distribution model; most of which have been concerned with the testing and debugging process. In this paper; the assumption of a hypergeometric distribution model for software reliability evaluation in service operation is reviewed; and the estimation power of the model is investigated by using actual fault data. It is found that the estimated mean time between failures agrees with the observed value. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals; Inc;
