Dynamic buckling of high pier with two ends simply supported under impulse loads

Considering the influences of transverse shear deformation and large displacement, the basic non-linear dynamic equations of high pier under impulse loads were established. By supposing the displacement shape functions and applying the Galerkin method, the dynamical equations with respect to time were gained. By using the four steps Runge-Kutta method, the dynamical equations were resolved, the critical loads and displacement response curves were obtained, and the influences of various kinds of loads and geometry parameters of high pier on the critical load were analyzed. The load-displacement curves under triangular impulse loads were compared with those under rectangular impulse loads. The displacement response curves under impulse loads with different peak values and the compliance-critical load curves under rectangular impulse loads were given. The influence of different persisting time of rectangular impulse loads on critical load was analyzed.
