Variational implicit surfaces interactive controlling via interpolation constraint

This paper presents a new interactive controlling method for variational implicit surfaces. Position constraint and normal constraint are used as the interpolating conditions. The adjusted implicit surface is required to interpolate the new position and normal at desired surface position which are specified by user interaction. For implicit surface, new objective functions are constructed by interpolating conditions. The changes of parameters of implicit surface are defined as freedom degrees which can be determined by minimizing the objective functions. This problem can be treated as an optimization one. Optimization methods are applied to solve it respectively. Particle system is used for real-time rendering of implicit surface. This provides a real-time and interactive method for controlling the shape of implicit surfaces. Examples are included in the end to demonstrate the efficiency of the new method. 1548-7741/Copyright © 2008 Binary Information Press October 2008.
