Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, India, has emerged as one of the leading mining and power generating companies of south India. The company is playing a significant role in providing power, which is one of the most significant infrastructures for rapid economic development of the region. It has been able to meet around 15% of the power requirements of south India through its lignite-powered thermal power plants. The company is playing a major role in the economic development and growth of the region by generating significant amount of power. It has established thermal power station-II that has a capacity of generating 1470 MW of thermal power. The power station consists 7 units, with an individual capacity of generating 210 MW thermal power. Some of the significant features of the power station, include largest lignite fired thermal power station in Asia and having the tallest tower type boiler in the country.
