Synthesis and characterization of Bi2S3 microcrystals with different templates of organic compounds

Bi2S3 microcrystals with different morphologies were successfully prepared by hydrothermal reaction between bismuth nitrate and thiourea, using thioglycolic acid, citric acid and carboxylic PPV as templates respectively. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM and UV-Vis-Near-IR spectrum. The orthorhombic crystal structure were revealed by XRD. SEM indicates that flowlike Bi2S3 is synthesized with thioglycolic acid, while in the exist of citric acid, Bi2S3 is flocculent and gathered into a pompon with 2 μm in diameter. In addition, pompon-like Bi2S3 with 2-3 μm in diameter was successfully synthesized with the influence of carboxylic PPV. The (αhν)2-hν curves obtained from UV-Vis-Near-IR spectrum show that the band gap of Bi2S3 prepared with different templates are broader than Bi2S3 without template .Especially, the band gap of Bi2S3 prepared with carboxylic PPV is 1.64 eV.
