Numerical simulation of temperature field in cold crucible for directional solidification of Ti alloys

Based on the Maxwell equations and the solidification heat transfer model, the numerical simulation of temperature fields in Ti ingots was conducted for the continuous melting and directional solidification. The temperature fields in Ti-6Al-4V ingots under different currents and coil turns were calculated. Results show that the temperature of the ingots increases sharply at the initial tens of seconds the distribution of temperature fields gets to be stable after the ingots being heated for about 100 seconds; and after about 300 s, the thermal equilibrium in the ignots is basically reached.
