Derivation of a formula for the spring constants of an reduced beam section (RBS) beam using the RBS-CFS stiffness matrix has directed the applicability of practical and accurate determination of elastic drift of a moment frame with RBS connections. The RBS connections that includes a wide flange beam with trimmed flanges; are widely used in steel building throughout the developed world. The study has followed the concept of using stiffness matrix to model RBS beam as an Euler Bernoulli frame element with rational springs at each end; which can be easily implemented in structural analysis software. A spring constant validation for plethora has also found a strong relationship between the minimum plastic section modulus of RBS beams and their spring constants. The results have suggested that multiplying the minimum plastic section modulus of an RBS beam by the coefficient provided by the study can help to achieve a more accurate estimate of the rational spring constant of the beams;
