Vibration and fatigue life analysis for wind-induced vibration of large span pipeline bridges under fluctuating wind load

Vibration and fatigue life for wind-induced vibration of large span pipeline bridges were analyzed. Considering the pulse characteristic of wind speed, morison equation was used to deduce vortex-induced force, and the load was applied for dynamic analysis of bridge structures. The fatigue life of the pipe and wire rope was analyzed by Miner's theory. The results show that the fluctuating wind speed has the damping effect on vortex-induced vibration. Response peak value occurs when the wind speeds are 4.0, 8.0, 9.5 and 11.5 m/s. Vertical and transverse displacements are big separately in wind attack angle of 0° and 90°. With the increase of the wind speed, the fatigue life of pipeline reduces significantly.
