摘要：

Today the hole drilling strain gauge method is the most diffused method for the residual stress measurement. This method is described by the American standard ASTM E 837-01 for constant residual stresses along the thickness. In the latest years the research gave us new stress evaluation methods for the most general case of variable residual stresses and new high speed drilling technologies with low impact on the measurements. These innovations are condensed in the last version of the automatic measurement instrument RESTAN. Following a simple pattern this tool leads to a local evaluation of residual stresses from the surface to 2,4 mm in depth.
