Telecom service providers need to know the right use of IP as they believe that IPTV gives them a platform for differentiation from cable video services. Telcos want to be sure that they can offer a new feature reliably and scalably before they adopt it fully. Service providers who want to enter the IPTV market must first convince consumers that telephone providers are capable of providing the same video services as cable companies. It is believed that the personalization of TV services helps monitize the model as it allows advertisers to target consumers more precisely. Advertisers will get a more sense of each interests of the subscriber and will be able to target e-commerce offers efficiently. There are multiple ways for IPTV providers to try to encourage cable competitors without changing consumer behavior such as having greater channel capacity and on-demand libraries.
