摘要
Since the 1920s, in order to solve various complex problems encountered in the drilling process, the oil-based drilling fluid technology has been continuously improved based on the optimization of the drilling fluid system, as well as the research and development of new materials. At present, a variety of high-performance oil-based drilling fluid systems and technologies have been formed and widely utilized, including high-temperature resistance, low solid phase, no-soil phase, reversible emulsification and constant rheology. In recent years, with the gradual depletion of onshore oil and gas resources that are easy to exploit, oil and gas exploration and development around the world are gradually approaching unconventional and complex resources, such as shale gas, ultra-deep water. Hence, the requirements for drilling fluid performance are becoming more and more stringent. When water-based drilling fluid cannot meet the criteria, oil-based drilling fluid has gradually become the central drilling fluid technology for drilling high-temperature deep wells, highly deviated directional wells, shale gas horizontal wells, offshore deep-water and other complex formations due to its inherent advantages of temperature resistance, shale inhibition, hydrate inhibition, lubrication and reservoir protection, which not only brings opportunities for the development of oil-based drilling fluid, but also makes oil-based drilling fluid face unprecedented challenges. This paper reviews the development history, current technical status and difficulties, and future development trends of oil-based drilling fluid. The "wellbore strengthener" for oil-based drilling fluids, a series of leakage and plugging materials tailored for oil-based drilling fluids, flocculants with unique molecular structures such as Gemini-type oil-soluble polymers, debris-carrying agents for oil-based drilling fluids, and emulsifiers resistant to extremely high temperatures were proposed. The application of biomass-synthesized base fluids and environmentally friendly oil-based drilling fluid treatment agents were conducted as well. Meanwhile, the harmless treatment of waste oil-based drilling fluids through photocatalysis and microbial synergistic degradation has been carried out. © 2023 University of Petroleum, China.
