With the development and maturation of heterogeneous networks with network services, the contradiction between the gradual perfection of Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) and the lagging of system reliability research are becoming increasingly acute. Therefore in this paper, the reliability model of directory-based, distributed query-based and hybrid architecture SDP are studied based on reliability theory. The distribution function of system reliability and average-life in these three types of SDP were fully analyzed and deduced, and a method of reliability evaluation is given from qualitative view. In addition, an actual example based on OSGi is utilized to show the important steps of how to use the methods presented in this paper to study the system reliability for complex SDP. It is known by example analysis, with the necessary target system background offered, that this model can effectively evaluate system reliability from both qualitative and quantitative level.
