Preparation and characterization of kaolinite-PAN intercalation composite

On the basis of kaolinite/DMSO intercalation composite, the DMSO was replaced by the ammonium acetate to make the distance between the kaolinite layers larger, and the acrylonitrile monomer was smoothly intercalated into the kaolinite layers. Kaolinite-polyacrylonitrile intercalation composite was prepared by the in-situ polymerization of monomers. The XRD results showed that the interlayer spacing of the kaolinite increases from 0.7 to 1.42 nm after two-step intercalation to provide favorable conditions for preparing K/PAN. The IR results indicated that the intercalation polymerization can change the kaolinite interlayer environment and make kaolinite stripping.
