Chasing the cheddar

Campina has installed a tracking and tracing system in its six production plants, to comply with food safety laws, improve product tracking and tracing, and improve logistics with fewer mistakes in palletizing, picking, and shipping. The tracking system has pallet labeling system and contains software to integrate product traceability and packaging line management. The tracking system uses information from SAP to activate automatic printing and application of labels before scanner verification of in-line bar code while system automatically stops the the packaging line on the difficulty in reading of labels. The system handles fixed and variable weight cheese and butter products of company. The system allows more frequent on-time deliveries, shorter delivery times, and less downtime and fewer customers returns due to incorrect product or expiration dates. Campina is saving $ 237,866 per year across six production plants and $ 64297 per year in the four co-packing sites.
