An optimized color space conversion algorithm for real time image compression

By analyzing several important stages of the image compression process that use transform coding technology, a novel optimized algorithm for color space conversion computation is proposed. The algorithm combines two stages of color space conversion and quantization and reduces the multiplication amount of computing color space conversion by 40% during compression process and by 50% during decompression process. It doesn't affect the structure of any processing stage during the image compression, and is compatible with other optimization technologies. The algorithm can be embedded into the implementation of the international image coding standards which use transform coding technology, such as JPEG, MPEG and H.26X, to efficiently raise the data coding/decoding speed.
