摘要
The niobium coatings were deposited by magnetron sputtering ion plating on depleted uranium substrates. The impacts of the deposition conditions on its properties were studied. The microstructures and mechanical properties were characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and conventional mechanical probes. The results show that the fairly dense and compact Nb coating, with columnar-structured nano-grains and high density of defects, significantly increases the corrosion resistance of the uranium and reduce the radiation pollution. The Nb coating with optimized mechanical properties, such as an elastic module of 195.1 GPa, a nano-hardness of 12.9 GPa, and a friction coefficient of 1.0, was deposited at a pulsed bias voltage of -500 V. Moreover, elastic and plastic deformations of the Nb coatings were also observed.
