Some of the methods that are used for mathematical representation of knowledge are discussed. Several techniques are available to deal with interval-valued probabilities of system failure and related problems. These techniques lead to intervals for system failure that are un-realistically wide of all possible probabilities when they are applied to practical reliability problems. The distributions corresponding to the extreme points of these un-realistically wide intervals have been derived and analyzed to find the reason for this width.
