摘要:
The Sun Road in Montana's Glacier National Park is a National Civil Engineering Landmark. After 70 years, the road is now showing an urgent need of repair. In view of this, the National Park Service (NPS) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) embarked on a monumental rehabilitation project to save the national treasure. Rehabilitation started in the late 1980s at the village and park entry point of West Glacier. The remaining work involves 13 construction phases in all. These will focus on five high-priority engineering areas: retaining walls, arches, and tunnels; guard walls and removable guardrails; drainage; slope stability; and pavement.
