Effects of air humidity on engine performance were studied experimentally on a turbocharged gasoline engine. The test results show that, with the increase of humidity, the actual amount of dry air involved in the combustion process is decreased, leading to a retard of combustion phase and an increase of combustion duration.As a result, the engine measured torque decreases and the fuel consumption increases.However, the anti-knock characteristics are remarkably improved with the increase of air humidity under high load operations.Thus, the fuel consumption is decreased by 1.4%-1.8% under high loads by optimizing the ignition advanced angle and the combustion phase. © 2019, Editorial Office of the Transaction of CSICE.
