摘要
The advances made by a German medical-materials science research group developing open porous titanium implants to improve the functional bonding between the implant and human bone is discussed. The researchers used Titanium powders produced by the hydride-dehydride process with particle size fractions of 125 - 250μm and 355 - 500μm to manufacture the implants samples. A chemical analysis of the sintered titanium samples show that the impurities of carbon and nitrogen after sintering were significantly below the value of titanium Grade 4 to obtain good mechanical properties for biomedical applications. The Young's modulus of the porous titanium parts was found to be similar to the Young's modulus of the cancellous bone.
