In grinding operations; the most common types of minerals employed include aluminum oxide; silicon carbide; alumina zirconia and ceramic aluminum oxide. Among these four mineral types; ceramic aluminum oxide abrasive grains provide outstanding results in a wide range of medium to heavy stock removal on aerospace alloys; carbon steel; nickel-based alloys and some stainless steel. Achieving the desired results however depend on understanding the components of a ceramic aluminum oxide coated abrasive product and knowing which specific grinding operation to perform. Factors that need consideration include the type of metal to be ground; amount of pressure; present belt spec; hardness of the back-up pad or wheel; machine type and conditions and quality requirements. Overall; correct specification and testing of ceramic aluminum oxide abrasives best determines whether the investment will pay off with improved productivity and improved casting quality;
