Effect of the structure of nano-particles on the property of EVOH nanocomposites

To study the influence of filled nano-particles on the EVOH substrate performance, EVOH nano-composites with EVOH-56 as substrate filled with nano-particles of different chemical structures and aggregation states were prepared by melt blending. The interaction parameter B among different components of composites was calculated according to the TPT equation. The results indicate that B value of EVOH-56/nano-TiO2(16.493) is greater than that of EVOH-56/nano-ZnO(3.806), and the melting temperatures of both composites increase approximate 6% as the nano-particles content increases. Under the same nano-particles content, the torque of processing of EVOH-56/nano-TiO2 is 5%-10% higher than that of EVOH-56/nano-ZnO and the former is superior to the latter in various aspects of mechanical properties including yield strength and elastic modulus.
