Incidents often occur in which a senior and/or mobility restricted person is left in a railroad crossing. Seibu Railway Co., with Oki Electric Industry Co., and Marubeni Network Solutions Inc., which are suppliers o fthe monitoring camera servicefor railroad crossings, proceeded the study to establish a system that automatically detects a person who is lingering within a railroad crossing even when no pedestrian is walking through the railroad crossing and notify the train driver o fthe existence o fsuch a person. This article describes the process and result o f the introduction test conducted at two railroad crossings in Seibu Railway lines for the detection system for a person lingering in a railroad crossing, which was developed using AI image analysis technology. © 2024 Japan Railway Engineers' Association.
