摘要
Current literature on the synthesis, investigation, and properties, as well as on possible application areas of polymer nanocomposites based on layered silicates is surveyed. One of the most important properties of these nanocomposites is their reduced flammability. It was assumed that this effect is due to their ability to initiate the formation of a char barrier on the surface of a burning polymer nanocomposite, which strongly retards heat and mass transfer processes in the combustion zone.
