Genetics and public health

The critical additional processes needed to integrate emerging genomic knowledge to produce population health benefits are discussed. The processes are systematic integration of information on gene/disease associations, the development of evidence-based processes to assess the value of genomic information for health practice and developing adequate public health capacity in genomics. The integration of information from multiple disciplines is needed to determine the added value of genomic information. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to promote the integration of genomics across all public health functions, including training and workforce development.
