Measurement of electric field strength distribution on composite insulator surface using optical electric field sensor

摘要
This paper introduces an optical electric field sensor for the measurement of electric field distribution on composite insulator surface. The developed sensor is calibrated between two parallel metal plates under power frequency. The measurement of z-direction electric field on glass rod surfaces and r-direction electric field beneath weathersheds is carried out. Geometrical model is built and electric field on the surface of insulator is calculated by using boundary element method (BEM). The results show good agreement between the measurement and calculated data.
