Auto-tuning parameter estimation algorithm for induction motors

The rotor parameter variation influences the dynamic and steady-state performance of induction motor significantly. A novel rotor resistance estimation method based on auto-tuning algorithm is presented. The comparison between the proposed method and the direct method has been done by means of simulation and experiments. The relationship between the performance of the auto-tuning estimation algorithm and its parameters, such as kp, ki and the initial reference value of rotor resistance, is discussed. The influence of load torque and rotor speed on the accuracy of parameter estimation is also studied. And the application scope of the auto-tuning estimation method is given. Experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method. The rotor resistance can be estimated accurately in some working conditions, especially when the load torque is large.
