Effect of Yttrium on Inclusions in H13 Steel

Different amounts of rare earth yttrium were added to H13 die steel to study the effect of Y on the type,form,size and composition of inclusions in steel. By adding Y to the electroslag and remelting and smelting them,the laboratory obtained H13 electroslag ingots with Y contents of 0.0008%,0.006% and 0.012%. The analysis was carried out by means of OM,SEM,ASPEX and thermodynamics software. The results show that the main inclusions in H13 die steel without any Y are MgO·Al2O3 covered by(Cr,V,Mo)C. The inclusions in H13 die steel with 0.0008% Y are mainly YAlO3 covered by(Cr,V,Mo)C. The inclusions in H13 die steel with 0.006% Y are mainly YAlO3 and YAlO3 covered by(Cr,V,Mo)C. The inclusions in H13 die steel with 0.012% Y are mainly Y2O3,YS-Y2O3 and Y covered by(Cr,V,Mo)C. When 0.012% of Y is added,inclusions smaller than 5 μm account for more than 96% of the total. © 2023 Chinese Society of Rare Earths. All rights reserved.
