Transient control performance of the independent close-loop control algorithm applied in diesel engine VNT-EGR air system was not so satisfactory because of the air system coupling characteristics, so decoupling control algorithm of VNT-EGR air system based on diagonal matrix method was developed, and the coupling control objective and the decoupling link were expressed in P canonical forms. After reasonable simplification, a decoupling control algorithm adopting PID control method, very easy to implement and calibration was achieved. Experiment results show that in transient conditions, this decoupling control algorithm can trace control targets faster and avoid non-minimum phase characteristics compared with traditional independent close-loop control algorithm.
