Relationship between freight transportation and economic growth of China

To achieve balanced development in China's economic and freight transportation, different regional strategy is constituted to maximize freight transportation leading role in the economy. Two methods are applied to determine the relationship between freight transportation and economic growth. The first one is the elasticity coefficient analysis. Loglinear regression analysis is performed by using GDP and freight transportation volume. The second one is two step cluster analysis, which is performed to analyze elasticity coefficient of freight transportation volume and GDP. The results of elasticity coefficient of freight transportation show that most of districts are relatively inelastic; therefore the freight transportation volume is not sensitive to the change of GDP. The cluster analysis presents that different districts have different level of economic development and freight transportation development. The development of freight transportation should vary in China. Different districts should have different strategies and plans for the development of freight transportation. There is a significant difference in the relationship between freight transportation and economic growth in different districts in China. The elasticity coefficient of freight transportation reflects the relationship between freight transportation and economic growth. © Copyright.
