摘要
The 50 years existence of an engineering journal, The Engineering Economist, that promoted engineering economics to grow in the engineering curriculum in universities around the United States is discussed. The first book was written in the year 1868 by Arthur Mellen Wellington that dealt with economic issues and methodology to be used by engineers designing solutions to railway construction. Such books and journals were published due to the increasing use of economic analysis in engineering projects. The editorial effort is a professional activity, without pay, by industrial engineering faculty that began with the journal's founding. The papers published reflect the engineering perspective which is unique among economic journals.
