Simulation-based surgery planning system using one dimensional analysis techniques

We have developed a simulation-based medical planning system to solve the one-dimensional equations of blood flow in the vascular system and evaluate the effect of alternate treatment plans on flow distribution and pressure variations. This system has been used to rank a series of treatment options for a test case previously evaluated and similarly ranked using three-dimensional analysis. We have demonstrated that this system, while not providing detailed three-dimensional flow solutions, can be used to compare alternate treatment options, providing insight to the relative efficacy of each treatment.
