Research on safety lane-changing model for microscopic traffic simulation

The level of details of a lane-changing model directly affects the accuracy of microscopic traffic simulations. Existing microscopic traffic simulation systems can hardly simulate the dynamic adjustment of vehicles' velocity in a lane-changing process with their uniform longitudinal acceleration lane-changing models. In this paper, we firstly divide the lane-changing process into four independent stages with different longitudinal accelerations according to the analysis of interactions among neighbor vehicles. We then build a general safety lane-changing model through the analysis of different orders of stages caused by environmental parameters. Moreover, we list constraint expressions to calculate the adaptive longitudinal acceleration in each stage. The simulation result shows that the model can provide detailed safety distance to improve the accuracy of microscopic traffic simulations. ©, 2015, Univ. of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
