摘要
Grinding wheel evaluation was carried out at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), as part of a broader Saint-Gobain Abrasive (SGA) program, to investigate the impact of new tougher CBN grains becoming available in the commercial market. The study investigated the effect of grit size distribution and toughness in standard and newly developed bond systems. Tougher grits were found to require the development of stronger, more resilient bonds to obtain economic benefit. The impact of process variables such as system imbalance was also observed. It was found that micron levels of imbalance or wheel out of roundness could significantly impact wheel life.
