Fatigue crack initiation and propagation in sandwich structure

Based on the fatigue test of sandwich composite plates, the fatigue crack propagation and cumulative damage in the period of the accumulated fatigue failure process were recorded by the crack detection technology. The fatigue cumulative failure process of crack initiation, propagation and ultimate failure during the whole life span was tracked. Relying on the data law of the cumulative damage tracking process, a material performance degradation model for sandwich composite structures in the process of gradual fatigue damage accumulation was presented. Meanwhile, taking residual stiffness as the parameter, the failure criterion of fatigue cumulative damage state D was established, which makes the structural fatigue life of sandwich composite plate can be derived. © 2019, Editorial Board of Journal of Ship Mechanics.
