Legislation to add $ 10.8 billion to the ailing Highway Trust Fund progressed in the US Congress as the House passed the measure by a strong 367-55 vote on July 15, 2014. The House-approved trust-fund had the same bottom line as a measure that the Senate Finance Committee cleared on July 10, 2014. The next step would be a Senate floor vote, either on the Finance Committee version or the House-passed bill. The Congress was making efforts to introduce a short-term fund solution in the House before the recess in August 2014. The US Department of Transportation informed that the trust fund's weakening highway account was projected to show a deficit around the end of August 2014. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, the prime author of the measure, said that the $10.8-billion trust-fund injection would provide enough money to keep the fund till 2015.
