Control method for lack of one phase in bearingless switched reluctance motors

Based on the fault-tolerance ability of switched reluctance motor (SRM), control strategies of levitation-force distribution and torque compensation are discussed under the open-phase operation of the bearingless switched reluctance motor (BSRM). The mathematical model of torque and the compensation strategy are introduced. The control method ensures the continuity of the levitation force, through the force-compensation for the abnormal phase. In addition, a calculating method of levitation currents is presented, in order to decrease negative torque from levitation force compensation. By using finite-element analysis, the algorithm is shown, and the experiment validates that the strategy had available control ability under the open-phase operation.
