The logistics related to moving aggregates by Tarmac is discussed. A £16 million investment programme is just completed in the Yorkshire Dales National Park which is one of Tarmac's flagship sites. Key to the operation is a dedicated rail link that takes out 800,000 tonnes of aggregate a year. The movement of aggregates within and to the Greater London area offers an insight into the importance each mode of transport plays.
