Study on the mechanism of ultrasonic vibration in improving the effect of gas medium electrical discharge machining

摘要
A new combined machining technology called ultrasonic vibration assisted electrical discharge machining in gas medium was proposed and the principle of which was introduced. The effective mechanism of ultrasonic vibration in improving machining effect of EDM in gas medium was analyzed. Experimental results show that the discharging gap is improved and the frequency of short circuit is reduced when ultrasonic vibration is added. Moreover, the MRR (material removal rate) is enhanced and the frequency of arc discharge is reduced. A single pulse experiment was designed in gas medium and ultrasonic vibration environment.
