Uncertainty and detection of the non-metallic inclusion's status in steel

In this paper, the uncertainty and detection of the status of non-metallic inclusions in steel is discussed. The result indicates that the status of non-metallic inclusions in steel is uncertain, and its positions are affected by the conditions of technique, the flow of molten steel, etc. The generated inclusion particles are inhomogeneous on chemical composition at a three dimensional space, so the average value of every element in the particles can not be accurately obtained by using plane spectrum analysis. At present, the methods of detecting non-metallic inclusions in steel have some limitation, so that the forms of one particle or cluster of inclusions can not be exactly known, and the size of them can only be estimated. The uncertain status of non-metallic inclusions in steel is from the irregular formation, movement, and agglomeration. This is a natural phenomenon which can be explained by fractal theory in modern physics. The using data from detected non-metallic inclusions to estimate the status of undetected inclusions is a speculation in the theory of method, which has just reference value.
