A check valve exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, which makes effective use of intake and exhaust pressure waves, was proposed for turbocharged diesel engines. The simulation of EGR system was carried out with one dimensional unsteady flow model. The effects of various factors on EGR rate and pumping loss of the check valve EGR system, such as with or without EGR cooler, relative position of the EGR cooler and check valve, arrangements of EGR pipes, were discussed.
