Study on Adsorption Performance of Porous Consolidated Silica-Gel Adsorbents

The consolidation of adsorbents is an effective way to improve heat transfer performance of adsorbents. However, it inevitably worsens mass transfer performance of adsorbents. Based on the principle of partial decomposition of CMC, the abundant pores were formed in adsorbents with carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) as the binder. Therefore, the mass transfer resistance of adsorbents can be reduced, and the mass transfer performance of adsorbents is enhanced. In this paper, the adsorption performances and porous properties of porous consolidated silica-gel adsorbents were evaluated by the laboratory-built volumetric testing device and Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), respectively. Moreover, the adsorption performances were calculated by the tested experimental data. The experimental results shows that a certain number of macropores were formed in the adsorbent layer, which improved the mass transfer performance adsorbents. The pore diffusion coefficient and surface diffusion coefficient of the adsorbents were obtained by the calculation method of pore diffusion and surface diffusion. © 2018, Science Press.
