Analysis on food safety-related WTO/SPS notifications in 2013-2014

WTO distributed 2931 SPS notifications during year 2013 and 2014, among which 1670 notifications concern on food safety. Canada and United States are still the largest members who notified food safety-related measures. China ranked the third. Among the 1670 food safety-related notifications, 44.0 percent concerns on pesticide and veterinary drug residues, and food additives accounting for 16.3%. Among the 157 food safety related SPS measures China has notified during 2013 and 2014, most of them are related to China National Food Safety Standards. During year 2013 and 2014, the United States and Canada notified several significant food safety regulations, furthermore, Korea, Philippines and Macau Special Administrative Region of China also published important food safety bill separately. A lot of WTO members are using SPS technical measures to protect their international food trade, China should also strengthen food safety scientific assessment and Trade Policy Research Science to safeguard the interests of our country. © 2016, Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology.
