The brick veneer, metal stud (BV/MS) back-up exterior wall system was invented to replace the more expensive concrete masonry unit (CMU) back-up system with a faster alternative. However, one cannot simply exchange one system for another and expect equal results. This article explores the various issues involved with BV/MS system, including thermal bridges, moisture accumulation, and anchorage.
